The Imam Khomeini House is located in the city of Qom in an old neighborhood called Yakhchal Ghazi, which was once one of the marginal and deprived districts of the city. This house was the residence of Imam Khomeini from 1956 to 1963, before his exile. Although the house was in a relatively deprived neighborhood at that time, it is architecturally very beautiful. The house consists of two courtyards, large and small, very similar to the Modarres House in Tehran, especially the first courtyard which is exactly like the entrance of the Modarres House. The first courtyard, which includes a basement and rooms above it, belonged to Agha Mostafa, the eldest son of the Imam.
