Description

The Great Oil Mill or Agha's Oil Mill dates back to the Safavid era. This monument was registered as one of Iran's national heritage sites on 15 June 2002 with registration number 5889 and is located among the tourist attractions of Najafabad. This oil mill, which is no longer in use, is the largest and one of the most beautiful oil mills in Iran. The presence of a millstone engraved with the holy Surah "Al-Qalam" is one of the most attractive parts of the oil mill alongside wooden lever beams used to extract oil from oilseeds such as borage and canola. The oil obtained from oil mills was used to light old lamps and is currently used to fertilize agricultural lands, as well as for dyeing and protecting the wood of ships and beehives.
