If you have traveled on the Haraz road towards Amol, you have surely seen mountains full of dark holes. These caves, made by humans, are known as hand-carved caves or «Dakhmeh Sang-i Kafer Koli». According to reports, these caves were places for people to take refuge from foreign tribes or tombs for burying bodies. In explorations conducted, artifacts were found indicating that these caves were places for long-term human habitation.
Hand-carved caves are among the strange sights of Iran and, given their location, few people visit them.
