Description

Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is one of the tourist attractions of Isfahan and holds great architectural significance. This mosque was built in the 11th century AH by order of Shah Abbas I during the Safavid era, and its construction took 18 years.

The result of 18 years of effort in construction was a unique mosque with an attractive dome and a stunning mihrab, designed by the renowned Iranian architect, Mohammad Reza Esfahani.

This mosque is attributed to Sheikh Lotfollah Jabal Alami, one of the great scholars of the Safavid era, and is registered in the list of national monuments of Iran. The beauty doubles after passing through the large wooden door of the mosque. When you pass through the entrance corridor of the mosque, you reach the light. A light that dances on the lapis lazuli blue, white, and gray tiles. With mosaic tiles and Thuluth script inscriptions by the great artist, Alireza Tabrizi Abbasi, it is a masterpiece that you may see only once in your lifetime, and only in Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque.

The design of Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque in Isfahan is such that even after all these years, it is considered a masterpiece of Iranian-Islamic architecture.

Sheikh Lotfollah has two unique features that distinguish it from other mosques.

One is that unlike all mosques, this mosque has no minaret. That is, if you look at the dome from afar, it shines alone in the blue sky. Of course, this dome is so beautiful that on its own, without the need for a minaret, it is considered one of the most beautiful domes in the world and one of the tourist attractions of Isfahan.

The second is that Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque has no entrance shabestan or courtyard, and people enter the mosque directly via a few steps.
