Description

The Tamijan Mudbrick Bridge in Rudsar is one of the ancient monuments of Gilan Province whose exact construction date is not clearly known. However, archaeologists date it to the Safavid era based on its architecture, which features pointed arches. Manuscripts from the past also attribute the construction of this bridge to the reign of Behzad Beg of Gilan. The architectural style of this bridge includes its body, foundations, floor, and spans. As the name suggests, its body and foundations are made of mud bricks. The floor is paved with stone and has four large spans and several smaller spans around the large ones. Small rooms with arched roofs are built into the bridge body for travelers and passersby to rest and protect them from rain. The walls on both sides of the bridge are 50 centimeters wide and tall to prevent pedestrians and animals from falling. The Rudsar mudbrick bridge, 60 meters long and 5 meters wide, is registered as a national heritage site. The bridge is located 6 kilometers from Rudsar over the Tamijan River, which locals call the small Kohneh Gurab. The importance of the Tamijan Mudbrick Bridge lies in its location on the main and old route of the "Shah Abbasi" road from Ardabil and Astara to Mazandaran.
