Seyyed Hassan Modarres was from the Tabatabaei Sayyids of Qomsheh Isfahan and was a religious-political figure during the Constitutional period. He was born in 1287 Solar Hijri in one of the villages of Ardestan and traveled to Tehran in 1328, entering the second term of the National Consultative Assembly. In 1307, he was exiled to Khaf and then to Kashmar. This religious scholar was ultimately martyred in 1316 in this city. His body was buried in a place outside the city of Kashmar, which at that time was known as "Tappeh Akhund".
After the events of Shahrivar 1320 and the exile of Reza Khan, people gathered at the pure grave of Ayatollah Modarres (may he rest in peace) and together raised the grave to a height of one meter from the ground and placed a small stone on it inscribed: "Grave of the Martyr Sir." In 1330, a board of trustees was formed to repair the martyr Modarres' shrine and to build buildings around it. Buildings were constructed, and the martyr's shrine remained in that condition for years. On 28 Shahrivar 1363, by the order of Imam Khomeini (may he rest in peace), the Astan Quds Razavi was assigned to renovate the martyr Modarres' tomb. The magnificent building that now surrounds the martyr Modarres' body was built between 1363 and 1367, replacing the previous small tomb and situated within a vast and enclosed garden.
