Shrine of Khwaja Khidr
The people of southern Iran have great faith in Khidr and Elias, and in the past, they built tombs for Khidr, the eternal prophet and guardian of the sea, in the southern parts of the country. One of these tombs is located in the city of Bandar Abbas, with a building featuring a green ribbed dome, modeled after the ziggurats of Elamite and Babylonian cultures. This place is famous as the shrine of Khidr and serves as a site for worship and vows by the people. Around this place, there is also an old and abandoned cemetery. Because Khidr is considered the guardian of the sea, fishermen visit this shrine during times of poor catch or sea dangers and make vows and sacrifices to resolve their problems so that the sea calms and they have a good catch.
