Description

The Tang Ab Dam, located in a gorge of the same name to the southwest of Gerash in the Siyah Mountain under a peak called "Bon-e Moruk," dates back to the Sasanian era. It was rebuilt during the Safavid period, and three retaining walls were constructed to prevent its destruction. The materials used in the dam and its retaining walls were stone and sarooj (a traditional mortar). An irrigation canal of the same material extends from the dam to a plain known as Dasht Bara (Upper Plain). Along this canal, two sarooj pools have also been built near the gorge's mouths. Currently, the area behind the dam is completely filled with sediment, and tamarisk trees can be seen on it. This structure has been registered in Iran's National Heritage List since summer 2001.
