Description

The Turk Stone Mosque is one of the historical mosques of East Azerbaijan Province, located in the city of Turk, a part of the Mianeh County. This mosque is situated 29 kilometers from the city of Mianeh, and all its parts are made of stone.

The construction date of the Turk Stone Mosque is unknown, and no inscription has been found regarding this; however, some attribute its construction to the time of Hasan ibn Ali, others to the 6th century AH, and some to the 8th century AH during the reign of Sultan Muhammad Khodabandeh.

However, Naeebi, based on the writings of Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili in the 7th century, rejects the Ilkhanid era for this mosque and confirms its origin in the 1st century AH.

The inscriptions and carvings of the Turk Stone Mosque are adorned with Nastaliq script, and the columns of this mosque are made of red stones. The mosque consists of 10 sections, with the building made of stone and its prayer halls constructed from bricks. The tomb of the mosque's founder is also located in its southwestern part.

On the doors and walls of the mosque, the date 1016 AH, coinciding with the reign of Shah Abbas Safavi, can be seen. Also, according to an inscription at the site, this mosque was rebuilt in 1282 AH after being destroyed by an earthquake, during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, by Haj Abbas Turki.
