Saint Mary Church, considered the largest and oldest church in Tabriz, is located in the Christian neighborhood near Shariati Street. This church is known as the place for holding religious ceremonies of the Armenians of Tabriz. It appears to date back to the Ilkhanate period, when Christians had influence at the court, and it was still in use during the Safavid era. The church's design is Armenian style with a cruciform plan, and its central dome rests on four large stone columns. A marble inscription in Armenian above the entrance door shows the date of the church's establishment, and two bells are installed on eight stone columns.
