One of Tabriz's hidden and unique attractions is the colorful Aladaghlar Mountains, which are often overlooked by tourists. From lake shores and forests to hot springs and deserts, Iran's nature thrives with astonishing diversity that appeals to every taste.
The rainbow-colored or Aladaghlar Mountains are located in two different areas: one in the Mahneshan region of Zanjan Province and Mianeh in East Azerbaijan Province, and the other north of Tabriz on the Ahar road. These mountains actually cover a vast area of 70 square kilometers, so visiting them is possible from various points in both East Azerbaijan and Zanjan provinces.
The reason for the colorful nature of the Aladaghlar Mountains relates to their long formation history. These mountains, found only in a few places worldwide, including the Zhangye Geopark in China and the Asangit Mountains in Peru, have amazed many. In China, the compression and oxidation of minerals and sandstone over millions of years are responsible for creating these unique mountain colors. Similar events likely occurred in other parts of the world, creating mountains with colorful layers.
