Description

The full name of this poet is Khwaja Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Baha al-Din Hafez Shirazi, who is simply called Hafez and also has other titles such as Lisan al-Ghayb, Tarjuman al-Asrar, Lisan al-Arifa, and Nazim al-Awliya. He was born in 727 AH and died in 792 AH. During his lifetime, Hafez became one of the world's renowned orators and a great poet of the eighth century Iran (equivalent to the 14th century AD) and left behind valuable ghazals. After the death of this great poet, no building was erected over his tomb for 65 years until in 856 AH, corresponding to 1452 AD, a person named Muhammad Yaghmaei, the minister of Mirza Abu al-Qasim Gurkani (the ruler of Fars), decided for the first time to build a memorial for him. He constructed a domed building over Hafez's tomb and placed a large pool in front of it so that water from Ruknabad, which was considered the water source of Shiraz, would flow into it. Many believe that in one of his poems, he predicted that his tomb would become a pilgrimage site after him and said:

A flower garland from the world's garden is enough for us        From this meadow, the shade of that flowing cypress is enough for us

When you pass by our grave, seek ambition        For it will be the pilgrimage site of the world's lovers
