Pol Dokhtar is located in the southeast of the city of Mianeh and is considered one of the tourist attractions of East Azerbaijan Province. Archaeologists have not been able to obtain accurate information about the history of the bridge; however, some researchers date the foundations of the bridge to the Sassanid era and some attribute its architecture to the 8th century AH. This monument was registered as one of Iran's national heritage sites on January 5, 1932, with registration number 87.
The pristine and beautiful nature of this region, along with the towering mountains and the ever-roaring Qezel Ozan River flowing beneath this bridge, have made Pol Dokhtar a beautiful attraction for many travelers and Iranians.
This ancient relic of the Iranian land, alongside other historical buildings in the county such as Dokhtar Castle, Najafqoli Khan Castle, Jamal Abad Caravanserai, and Shahr Chay Bridge, has witnessed the long history of caravans, merchants, and many Iranian and foreign travelers who for centuries were engaged in the transfer of culture and art under the shadow of trade to the Iranian plateau and other parts of the world. In this way, the bridge played a significant role in the revival of the Silk Road and holds great value from this perspective. It should be preserved and protected with special policies and strategies.
