Description

The tomb of Pir Qotb al-Din, dating back to the Qajar era, is located in the tourist city of Astara. Despite its considerable antiquity, there is insufficient and unclear information about the background of the personality buried there. This historical monument awaits archaeological excavation, research, and registration in the national heritage list.

The tomb of Pir Qotb al-Din, with its brick facade and tall, sturdy stature, stands out prominently.

Locals call this historical building "Turbe" or "Pirqub." The presence of the cemetery management office and a stone carving workshop within it, along with the cemetery being situated in the heart of the city, makes this historical monument significant to today's people as well. The tomb is surrounded by graves of the deceased and several martyrs of the Sacred Defense. The tomb of Pir Qotb al-Din is built on a platform of thick, sturdy stones, its brick walls constructed with cement or sarooj (traditional mortar), and its tiled roof supported by wooden beams. Cracks in the brick walls, wrinkles in the wooden beams under the roof, and algae and greenery on the roof tiles all indicate its ancient history.

The tomb has seven barred and glazed windows and one iron entrance door. Two of the windows have been blocked with stone, brick, and mortar. Several tied cloth pieces on the window bars symbolize vows and prayers, showing that people visit this tomb to pray and seek intercession from the mystic buried there to fulfill their wishes. It appears that Pir Qotb al-Din was one of the mystics of the 9th century, contemporary with Baba Hasan and Pir Mohammad Doost. In the book "Astara, the Gateway to Modernism," Pir Qotb al-Din is mentioned as a mystic who died in the year 900 AH.
